Sarkodie has stated that raising children is about much more than providing for their needs. The award-winning rapper has revealed that he takes an active role in their daily lives while ensuring they grow up with the confidence to face life’s challenges on their own.
Speaking in an interview with DJ Adu on the BBC on June 28, 2026, the Sarkcess Music boss shared how he remains involved in his children’s routines whenever his schedule allows. One of the parts of parenting he enjoys most, he said, is getting them ready for school.
“I help the kids take their shower in the morning and my wife corrects me all the time. Only if I can, I wake up early in the morning and get them ready. I love dressing them up, telling them about having a great day. When they return from school, they would narrate what happened,” he disclosed.
Despite the demands of his music career, Sarkodie said spending quality time with his children remains a priority. He explained that even when he is away from home, he arranges for them to spend time with him before they all return together.
“Even when I’m somewhere, the driver drops them off with me and maybe, we go home later. That’s the life that I have enjoyed and this is like a perfect scenario for me,” he stated.
The rapper also believes children should be given opportunities to develop independence instead of having every obstacle removed for them. While he wants to provide them with everything they need, he intentionally allows them to solve some problems by themselves.
“When you have your kids, you want to be able to provide everything, but also, I want them to learn too, so sometimes you pretend that you don’t know what they’re asking you to do. I let them try to figure some things out for themselves, which I sometimes feel bad about, but I had to psyche my mind that they have to do it,” the Sarkcess Music boss said.
He also reflected on how his approach to parenting has evolved over the years. After initially trying to shield his children from difficult realities, Sarkodie said he realised that exposing them to everyday experiences would better equip them for the future.
“In the beginning, I protected everything so they don’t get to see what reality is, which is very dangerous for the kids. Imagine me allowing my children to go on a public bus. That will be the scariest time of my life, but I had to do it,” he further stated.
