Media personality Ola Michael has criticised Bishop Daniel Obinim over his recent comments about a car gifted to his wife, questioning the motive behind the preacher’s reaction.
In a video shared on social media, Ola Michael argued that Obinim’s remarks were driven by emotion rather than wisdom. He said the comments did not reflect the maturity expected from someone regarded as a spiritual leader.
“Prophet Obinim, the video you made makes absolutely no sense to me. If you said in the video that you’re a wise person who’s speaking, you’re wrong on that side. I would have agreed that you’re wise if you hadn’t recorded the video,” he said.
Ola Michael maintained that there was nothing inappropriate about someone deciding to appreciate Obinim’s wife with a car, particularly when there was no indication of any romantic connection between them.
“You spoke out of pain, saying someone you don’t know has given your wife a car. Someone your wife is not having an affair with, someone she never prayed to for a car, but the person realised she deserved it and decided to bless her. Why should that make you angry?” he questioned.
To further explain his point, the media personality shared an experience he said was narrated to him by the late gospel musician Yaw Sarpong.
According to Ola Michael, Yaw Sarpong once revealed that a woman gifted him money to purchase a Toyota Tundra after explaining that his music had positively influenced her life. He said the woman later added more money when the initial amount was not enough to complete the purchase.
“I remember when Yaw Sarpong was alive, we met at an event and we had a conversation. He told me about a Tundra he was using that a woman gifted him. The woman said his songs brought a positive impact in her life, so she called him home to give him GH₵60,000 to buy the car. When they were going to buy the car, they realised the money she gave him wasn’t enough, so the woman added more, and that’s how he got the car,” he shared.
He added, “That’s how the Lord’s work is. People notice the good things others are doing and decide to bless them. If someone gifts your wife a car, you can’t be there and criticise her. It looks like you’re hurt because someone did something you couldn’t do for your wife.”
Ola Michael also challenged Obinim’s statement that he has several vehicles, asking why his wife did not already have a car of her own if that was true.
“You claim you have a lot of cars at home and you sometimes contemplate which one to use. Among all these cars, which one is for your wife? Why didn’t she have her personal car? Your wife is not your enemy,” he stated.
The media personality further accused Obinim of being inconsistent, arguing that the preacher was publicly addressing matters concerning his marriage after his wife had previously chosen not to discuss their relationship during an interview.
“When I called your wife for an interview, she pleaded with me not to discuss her marital issues. I respected her wishes and focused only on her personal life and music career. Yet you are the same person discussing and embarrassing her in your church. After such public embarrassment, do you think she will feel comfortable enough to stand before the congregation and preach?” he averred.
