President John Dramani Mahama has made his first ministerial reshuffle in his second term, nominating Klottey Korle Member of Parliament Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology and Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga for the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
The changes, announced on Friday, August 7, come one year and eight months into President Mahama’s second administration and follow the reassignment of two ministers as well as the nomination of two new appointees.
In the latest changes, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been moved from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence. Adjei previously served as Deputy Minister of Defence under President Mahama’s first administration between May 2015 and January 6, 2017.
Meanwhile, Ahmed Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for Banda, has been transferred from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to take charge of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to the statement, the adjustments were made in line with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution and are aimed at filling the vacancies created following the deaths of Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Dr Murtala Mohammed in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
The nominations of Dr Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings and Mahama Ayariga have been forwarded to Parliament for consideration and approval before their formal appointments.
