19-Year-Old Sentenced to 15 Years for Robbing, Injuring Man in Kumasi

Ahmed Mustapha, 19, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for robbery and causing harm in an attack near Asabi in Kumasi.

A 19-year-old man, Ahmed Mustapha, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence with hard labour after pleading guilty to robbery and causing harm in the Ashanti Region.

The Asokwa Circuit Court Two, presided over by Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah, convicted Mustapha over an attack on a 25-year-old man near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.

Police arrested Mustapha on July 21, 2026, after the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol team responded to reports that the victim had been attacked and robbed of his mobile phone.

When the patrol team arrived, Mustapha reportedly attempted to escape and sought refuge in an incomplete building. Officers pursued him and arrested him.

A mobile phone identified as belonging to the victim, together with a cutlass believed to have been used during the attack, was retrieved from Mustapha.

The victim sustained cutlass injuries to his forehead, neck and left hand. He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital for treatment after reportedly losing consciousness.

He later regained consciousness and was said to be in stable condition.

Mustapha first appeared before the Asokwa Circuit Court Two on July 27, 2026. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was remanded in police custody ahead of sentencing.

On August 10, the court convicted him and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

He has since been transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to serve his sentence.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command praised the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team for its swift intervention and appealed to the public to continue sharing timely information with the Police to support efforts to prevent and fight crime.
