Akrobeto has explained why he stayed away from the burial and funeral ceremony of the late engineer and founder of Kristo Asafo, Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, despite his close association with him.
The Kumawood actor, whose real name is Akwasi Boadi, spoke about his absence in a video shared on social media.
Akrobeto was speaking at a ceremony organised by Nana Akofena, one of the late engineer’s sons, when he addressed questions surrounding his decision not to attend the funeral.
According to the actor, his decision was not borne out of disrespect or a change in his relationship with the late Apostle Safo Kantanka. Rather, he said he chose to honour a specific instruction the engineer had given him before his death.
Akrobeto explained that he regularly sought advice from the late engineer while he was alive and had come to understand his wishes concerning who should take responsibility for his funeral arrangements.
He said Apostle Kantanka had specifically told him that Nana Akofena should be the person to bury him and organise his funeral ceremony after his death.
The actor said he therefore felt compelled to stay away when the arrangements for the funeral did not follow the instruction he had personally received from the late engineer.
Akrobeto noted that his absence generated questions because of how openly he had spoken about his admiration for Safo Kantanka over the years.
He revealed that several people contacted him during the burial to ask why he was not present, particularly because he had been one of the personalities who frequently spoke about the late engineer and his work.
“During the burial, a lot of people called to ask why I didn’t attend because I have been vocal about him. Papa told me that when he was no longer alive, Akofena should bury him and also organise the funeral ceremony.
“So, if you didn’t see me during the burial, it was because I respected him and decided to go by his wishes. That was why I didn’t attend the burial,” Akrobeto stated.
