Bread Delivery Bust: Herbalist Arrested for Smuggling Hacksaw Blades to Kasoa Remand Prisoner

Police arrest a herbalist after hacksaw blades were found hidden in bread meant for a remand inmate at Kasoa police station.

A routine visit to a police station in Kasoa took an unexpected turn after officers uncovered a concealed escape tool hidden in plain sight.

The Ghana Police Service has picked up a 42-year-old herbalist, Mohammed Hamidu, for allegedly attempting to pass hacksaw blades to a remand inmate at the Kasoa Central Business District Police Station.

The arrest happened on the evening of April 14, 2026, around 8:00 p.m., when officers at the charge office intercepted the suspect during a delivery.

Hamidu had arrived with assorted items meant for a detainee, Cephas Bubune Sisiawovor, who is being held in connection with a robbery case. The package included six bottled soft drinks and a loaf of bread.

What appeared to be a routine handover quickly raised suspicion. During a standard inspection, officers discovered two brand new hacksaw blades carefully hidden inside the bread.

The find led to Hamidu’s immediate arrest.

Early findings suggest the delivery was not accidental. Investigators say the remand prisoner had earlier directed Hamidu to retrieve the items from a man known only as Emmanuel, reportedly located near the Lucky Herbal Clinic in Kasoa.

While Hamidu remains in custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations, police have launched a search for Emmanuel, who is currently at large.

Authorities have secured the seized items as evidence.

The Police Command has praised the alertness of the officers involved, noting that their attention to detail may have prevented a potential security breach. It also issued a caution to the public, stressing that any attempt to aid unlawful activities will be met with firm legal consequences.
