Deported “King of Kubala” Targets Sunyani as Base for Self-Styled Rule After UK Removal

King Atehene and The Kingdom of KUBALA

A man who drew global headlines for declaring his own “African kingdom” on Scottish soil has now been sent back to Ghana, with UK authorities confirming his deportation.

Kofi Offeh, who styled himself as King Atehene, was removed after a prolonged legal battle tied to a disputed encampment he and two associates established near Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders.

Their group, operating under the name “Kingdom of Kubala”, moved onto woodland and adjoining land in early 2025. They insisted they were reclaiming territory they believed had been taken from their ancestors centuries ago. Their refusal to accept the authority of the courts triggered a drawn-out confrontation with landowners and local officials.

Offeh and his companions, a Zimbabwean national and an American associate, were initially evicted from a hillside site in July 2025. They later resurfaced at a nearby location, setting off another round of legal action.

After repeated failures to comply with court orders, authorities moved in again in October. Police, immigration officers and court officials carried out a coordinated operation that ended with arrests. Footage of the moment, widely shared online, showed Offeh and one associate being led away in handcuffs.

Following their removal, officials cleared the site, dismantling structures and taking away belongings left behind at the camp.

The UK Home Office has since confirmed Offeh’s deportation. He was recently captured on video arriving at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

His actions in Scotland had attracted significant international attention, amplified by an active presence on TikTok and Facebook where the group gathered tens of thousands of followers and broadcast key moments of their standoff.

Back in Ghana, Offeh has continued to stir controversy with bold declarations about his next move. He has indicated plans to establish a base and extend his self-declared authority.

“Everyone will bow before me, whether chiefs, politicians or even the police are going to serve me,” he said.

“I have come to take over Ghana because I am the King of Kubala. Everywhere I land, I take dominion, where I establish my throne, so the time has come. Everyone will bow before me, whether chiefs, politicians or even the police are going to serve me,” he further stated.

He is reported to be considering Sunyani as a potential hub, describing it as a strategic location for his plans.

In Scotland, officials say his departure closes a disruptive chapter for the Jedburgh area. A local councillor described the outcome as a relief, pointing to months of uncertainty and tension within the community.

UK authorities maintain that both the eviction and deportation followed established legal procedures, with the Home Office confirming that Offeh has now been removed from the country.
