Woman Arrested Over Viral TikTok Threats Against President Mahama

A woman identified as Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, has been arrested over viral TikTok videos in which she allegedly threatened President John Dramani Mahama and made offensive comments about him.

The arrest was carried out by the Inspector General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team in collaboration with the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department.

In a statement issued on Thursday, May 21, 2026, police said the suspect was picked up after videos circulating on social media captured her allegedly insulting the President and making threats against his life.

“The IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has arrested suspect Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat for offensive conduct and issuing threats against the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama in videos circulated on social media,” the statement said.

Police also accused the suspect of making comments aimed at inciting attacks against the President and his wife.

“She was threatening the life of the President and inciting others to harm both the President and his wife,” the statement added.

Investigators said intelligence gathered on May 19, 2026, triggered an operation that led to her arrest the following day at Sekyere Zongo in the Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.

According to the police, the videos showed the suspect making insulting remarks directed at the President.

“The suspect was captured in some videos posted on TikTok making insulting remarks about the President,” the statement said.

The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before court.
