Driver Arrested in Central Region Over Massive Shotgun Ammunition Haul at Checkpoint

Police arrest a driver at Green Field checkpoint after discovering 14 boxes of shotgun cartridges in his vehicle in Central Region.

The Central Regional Police Command has taken into custody a driver identified as Francis Ampomah over allegations of unlawful possession of ammunition.

The arrest followed an intelligence-driven operation mounted at the Green Field Plantation snap-checkpoint within Ghana’s Central Region.

Police reports indicate that the suspect was intercepted on May 27, 2026, at about 12:30 a.m. while operating a Toyota Voxy with registration number GT 9748-26. He was reportedly travelling from Accra towards Assin Fosu.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly discovered 14 boxes coloured yellow and brown, which were said to contain shotgun ammunition. Authorities noted that each box held 250 cartridges.

Following the discovery, the suspect was immediately detained to assist ongoing investigations. The vehicle used for the trip has also been impounded by the police.

The Central Regional Police Command says investigations into the incident are still underway.
