Ghanaian gospel artiste Jack Alolome has opened up about the role his connection to President John Dramani Mahama played in finally securing his visa to travel to the United States, after multiple unsuccessful attempts.
Speaking in a video shared on X, the singer recounted a difficult visa journey that saw him rejected three times. He attributed the repeated refusals partly to challenges he faced during interviews, especially when trying to communicate fluently in English.
Describing how he eventually succeeded on his most recent attempt, Jack Alolome said he changed his approach and opted to use a translator during the interview, following advice from a friend who had taken a similar route.
While responding through the translator, he revealed that he mentioned his occasional performances for President John Dramani Mahama. According to him, that detail shifted the tone of the interview.
He explained that the consular officer appeared intrigued upon hearing his link to the president, pausing her work and reacting with surprise, which he believes played a key role in the approval of his visa.
“I was determined during this recent trip. One of my friends had used a translator during his visa application and advised me to do the same. So when I got there, I requested a translator. While speaking through the translator, I mentioned that I sing for the president.
“The moment the consular officer heard that I sang for the president, she stopped typing and seemed surprised. That was how I got my visa to travel to the United States,” Jack Alolome revealed.
