Ghanaian rapper Joey B says he is deliberately staying out of relationships as he takes time to focus on himself and reflect on lessons from his past.
The rapper made the revelation during an interview on the Sincerely Accra podcast, where he explained that he is currently not in love despite having had several beautiful women in his life.
According to Joey B, his decision to remain single is a conscious one as he believes he needs some time away from relationships.
“I’m not in love. I have to say it, I am not in love. There are a lot of beautiful women that have been in my life, and I just learned from it. I just feel like I have to be single for some time,” he said.
While discussing his current relationship status, Joey B also addressed assumptions that being single could mean he is actively pursuing multiple women.
He insisted that he has moved away from the lifestyle he once lived, saying he no longer sleeps around as he used to. The rapper linked his change in behaviour to his belief that promiscuity does not come with God’s blessings.
“It’s not like I’m sleeping around either. I am not sleeping around like before. There’s no blessing in that, so if you’re a young boy and you sleep around or indulge in those activities, God won’t bless you. Stop it,” he advised.
Joey B also spoke about the changes that come with growing older and becoming more mature.
He suggested that men eventually reach a stage where activities such as excessive partying, womanising, smoking and drinking no longer hold the same attraction they once did.
“As a man, you get to a point where partying, womanizing, weed, drinking… even when you overdrink water, you suffocate, so you need to look at it and minimize certain things,” he explained.
The rapper went on to reveal that he has never smoked marijuana or consumed alcohol. However, he admitted that his appearance and the attention he receives from women have sometimes placed him in situations he would rather avoid.
Joey B said this realisation pushed him to consciously distance himself from certain environments and encounters.
“Me, I never did weed, I never did alcohol, never in my life. But I am good-looking, so by all means women will come to me, and that is where I noticed I have to stay away from those things. That’s why I did it,” he further stated.
