Edina Traditional Council Cancels Edina Bakatue 2020

The Edina Traditional Council has cancelled this year’s edition of Edina Bakatue Festival.

The Edina Bakatue Festival is an annual festival of the Chiefs and people of Elmina in the Central Region.

But following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ghana, the Edina Traditional Council has cancelled the festival.

In a press release to the media and signed by the Registrar of the Traditional Council, Vida Plange Ogoe state that, “ I have been directed by the Paramount Chief of the Edina Traditional Area that, in view of the measures announced by the government of Ghana such as ban on public gatherings in a bid to contain the deadly coronavirus pandemic, the Edina Traditional Council and Brand Elmina regret to inform the indigenes of Edina, home and abroad, the good people of Ghana and the diasporean community that this year’s Edina Bakatue Home Coming has been cancelled.”

Miss Ogoe noted that, “Coming to this decision has not been easy, judging by the great reviews the launch of the festival in January got and the collective resolve of Edina to make this year’s a standout.”

However all rites would be performed by the Chiefs in accordance to their customs.
