Residents Of Penkwasi East Electoral Area In Sunyani Living In Fear Over Crime Cases

Residents of Penkwasi East Electoral Area in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region are calling for improved security in the area, their call follows increasing theft and phone snatching cases in the area.

Some of the residents say they are living in fear and are therefore calling for the construction of a Police station to improve security in the area.

The Penkwasi East Electoral Area in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region has a population close to 7,000 and is one of the biggest Electoral Area in the Municipality.

Penkwasi East shares boundaries with other electoral areas including, Penkwasi West, New Dormaa, Low Cost and Magazine.

Over the years, the Electoral Area has been one of the most peaceful and crime free areas. However, things are changing. There are frequent theft and phone snatching cases in the area.

Residents are therefore worried and unhappy with the current state of affairs.

Some of the residents whose phones and other belongings have been taken from them shared their experiences with First News.

Maxwell Gyamfi one of the victims in an interview said he had closed from work when he was attacked and his phone taken from him.

“I had closed from work so around 7:30p.m. they attacked me took my phone and an amount of 250 cedis. After my attack about five persons have been attacked at the same place. We are living in fear in Penkwasi. We need government to come on board to help us.”

The Assembly Member of the Penkwasi East Electoral Area, Emmanuel Nketia tells First News what he is doing to ensure improved security in his Area.

“I have informed the Municipal Police Commander about the situation. Apart from this I have made it known at the Municipal Assembly. I have also started putting a police post and would need support to complete.”
