Former IGP, Peter Nanfuri To Be Buried on May 27

Former Inspector General of Police Peter Nanfuri who later became the Paramount Chief of the Jirapa Traditional Area with the stool name Naa Angsoleh Ganaa II will be buried on May 27, 2023.

Peter Nanfuri died on 16th February 2023 at the Police Hospital in Accra at the age of 80.

A funeral service will be held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra after which the body will be conveyed to Jirapa for burial.

He was a former Council of State Member and the Director of the Bureau of National Investigation.

Nanfuri was born at Jirapa in the Upper West Region. He studied at the University of Ghana, Legon where he obtained a B.A. degree in Political Science and a law degree.

He worked in various capacities within the Ghana Police Service and was once the Director of the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) in 1986.

Towards the end of his service as IGP, he came under severe pressure due to the serial murder of some women in Ghana.

He was replaced as IGP by former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
