Video: Watch What Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Said About Kofi Kinaata

Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, recently mentioned Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata in a speech.

Speaking at the General Conference of the Ghana Bar Association, the Asantehene referenced the phrase “Obi nya waye” from Kofi Kinaata’s hit song Susuka to emphasize the importance of appreciating Ghana.

He highlighted that despite the nation’s challenges, many countries aspire to be like Ghana. The Asantehene, therefore, urged citizens to reflect on Kinaata’s insightful lyrics.

Praising the wisdom in the lyrics of some Ghanaian musicians like Kinaata, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II said:

“I can think of many countries that look up to Ghana and wish they were like us. Sometimes, listen to the wisdom of our musicians and reflect on a song like Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Obi nya waye,’ which means ‘Someone wishes they were like you.’”

Following this, Kofi Kinaata shared the video on social media, expressing his joy.

Mentioning his mother in the post, Kinaata wrote: “Auntie Ama eeiii… I have made it!! #KofiOOKofi.”

His fans and colleagues celebrated the moment with enthusiastic comments.
