Dr Bawumia unveils plans for local streaming platform to boost monetization for Ghanaian creatives

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his plan to create a local streaming platform for Ghanaian creatives.

Some months ago, Dr Bawumia first shared his vision to introduce digital and streaming platforms for Ghanaian artists if elected President. He made this pledge during his lecture titled “Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future” at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, on February 7, 2024.

The NPP Presidential Candidate emphasized this commitment again after meeting with industry players and celebrities on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

He vowed to help creatives increase their earnings, as many are currently struggling to monetize their work effectively. Dr Bawumia highlighted the need for a local streaming platform to ensure that Ghanaian artists can profit from their creativity.

Pointing out that existing streaming platforms are owned by foreign entities, he stated that a locally-owned platform would be more advantageous for the country’s creatives.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia also expressed his intention to collaborate with the Musicians Union of Ghana, Ghana Music Rights Organization, and other stakeholders to bring this vision to life.
