Ghanaian radio presenter Abdul Karim, popularly known as Nana Romeo, has shared a somber account of the circumstances surrounding the death of Akua Donkor.
Reports of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) founder’s passing surfaced online early on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. A family source confirmed that Madam Donkor passed away on Monday night at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, commonly known as Ridge Hospital, in Accra.
According to sources, Akua Donkor initially sought treatment for respiratory issues at Nsawam Government Hospital in the Eastern Region but was later referred to Ridge Hospital in Accra, where she eventually passed away.
On his show on Accra FM, Nana Romeo, in a video posted online, explained that Akua Donkor was transferred to Ridge Hospital due to the lack of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Nsawam Government Hospital. Nana Romeo expressed that, had this facility been available, he believes Akua Donkor might have survived.
He also highlighted the challenges of the poor road conditions between Nsawam and Accra, expressing concern for the comfort of critically ill patients being transported to other hospitals. Nana Romeo further raised concerns about the shortage of hospital beds in many health facilities across the country.
