“My Father Wanted Me to Be a Doctor, But I Told Him I Wanted to Be a TV Presenter” — Nana Aba Anamoah Reveals

Nana Aba Anamoah has talked about the crossroads that shaped her career, revealing how close she came to a future in medicine before choosing life in front of the camera.

The famous broadcaster, speaking on the Konnected Minds Podcast on January 31, 2026, said her academic background made medicine the obvious option in her father’s eyes, even though she had already fallen in love with television.

“My father wanted me to be a medical doctor, but I told him I wanted to be a TV presenter. He said then we should see how it goes,” she said.

Nana Aba explained that the same man who hoped she would become a doctor also unknowingly nurtured her interest in media. She recalled growing up surrounded by books and global news, largely because of her father’s habits.

“He knew where the inspiration was coming from because he was giving me a lot of books to read and watching CNN with him. My father was a big-time consumer of TV and he wasn’t too sure if I would make it on TV,” she stated.

Her strong performance in science subjects further convinced him that medicine was the most secure route.

“He knew what my comfort zone was and it was science. I was really good at science in school, I got excellent grades, so he thought I was going to make a very excellent medical doctor,” she disclosed.

Despite ticking all the boxes academically, the Ghanaian media personality said she never connected with the idea of becoming a doctor and felt unsuited for the demands of the profession.

“I never imagined myself as a doctor because I think I would have been the most horrible doctor. I don’t have what it takes to administer what doctors do and I don’t have the patience they have,” Nana Aba Anamoah further stated.
