Creatives are not dumb – Ghanaian actress Zynnell Zuh challenges misconceptions
Ghanaian actress and fashion icon Zynnell Zuh has passionately challenged the misconception that the entertainment industry is a refuge for those with limited academic abilities or a fallback for individuals deemed unsuccessful in other areas of life.
Speaking openly on the topic, Zynnell expressed disappointment at the negative stereotypes often associated with entertainers. “It’s disheartening that people underestimate the intelligence and dedication of those who follow their passions in the creative arts,” she remarked.
With an impressive academic portfolio, Zynnell is a testament to the contrary. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Geography and Information Studies from the University of Ghana and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Mountcrest University College. Recently, she achieved another significant milestone by earning a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from BPP University in the United Kingdom.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the actress reflected on her academic journey and its role in debunking harmful stereotypes about entertainers.
“The notion that individuals in showbiz lack intelligence is a stereotype I vehemently disagree with,” Zynnell asserted. “Balancing creativity, business, and strategy demands a high level of intelligence and adaptability. Many creatives are not only highly educated but also use their platforms to drive meaningful change in society. It’s essential to challenge such outdated beliefs and celebrate the diverse talents within the industry.”
She credited her recent academic achievement with paving the way for new opportunities, particularly in the realms of commercial and entertainment law. Her vision is to merge her artistic talents with her legal expertise to amplify her contributions to film production, fashion, and philanthropy.
“Completing my Master of Laws degree at BPP University marks a pivotal point in my journey. It reaffirms my commitment to integrating my creative endeavors with legal proficiency,” she explained. “I aim to build a career at the intersection of entertainment and commercial law, ensuring the smooth management of my film production company, fashion business, and charitable initiatives.”
Expounding on her aspirations, Zynnell shared, “This journey is about embracing my evolution into a multidimensional brand. It’s not just about creating films, designing fashion, or running a charity—it’s about combining these elements to deliver greater value to my audience and community. Whether through thought-provoking films, empowering fashion collections, or impactful charity work, I want every facet of my career to resonate with purpose.”
She also revealed plans to expand her fashion brand into ready-to-wear collections and scale up her film production company with innovative projects. “This degree has equipped me with the tools to navigate the complexities of commercial and entertainment law, providing critical support for creative businesses like mine. I’m excited about the limitless possibilities that lie ahead,” she added.
