John Dumelo responds to critics mocking his transition from acting to politics
Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has responded to critics questioning his ability to serve in Parliament because of his entertainment career.
In a recent interview on Hitz FM, the MP-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon recounted the initial skepticism he faced when transitioning from acting to politics. Some doubted his competence, viewing his background in showbiz as a disadvantage.
Dumelo dismissed these criticisms as disrespectful, emphasizing the wide range of professional experiences represented in Parliament. “You have lawyers, doctors, and businessmen in Parliament,” he noted, adding, “We even had hairdressers in Parliament.”
He argued that effective lawmaking is not determined by a person’s previous career but by their dedication to serving their constituents.
John Dumelo highlighted the importance of inclusivity and diversity in governance, which he believes enrich the political process.
Undeterred by skepticism, Dumelo remains focused on fulfilling his responsibilities as a lawmaker and proving his critics wrong through impactful representation.
