Empress Gifty drags Nana Agradaa to court over defamation, demands GHS 20 million

Ghanaian Gospel singer Empress Gifty has initiated legal proceedings against controversial evangelist and online figure Nana Agradaa, demanding GHS20 million in damages for what she describes as defamatory attacks on her character.

The case, filed at the Tema High Court through her lawyer Sam Kyere Esq., names Agradaa, whose legal name is Patricia Asiedua, as the defendant. The lawsuit alleges that Agradaa made damaging and false statements on social media, which have severely harmed Empress Gifty’s reputation.

The feud traces back to a heated online episode in which Agradaa, responding to remarks made by Empress Gifty’s husband, politician Hopeson Adorye, went on a verbal tirade. Adorye had made comments regarding an incident involving Agradaa and Sammy Gyamfi, sparking a furious response that included vulgar insults aimed at both him and his wife.

Agradaa followed up with a series of videos, in which she not only rejected Adorye’s comments but further lashed out at Empress Gifty in what the plaintiff claims were defamatory and slanderous statements.

In her Statement of Claim, Empress Gifty is seeking several forms of legal relief:

a) The sum of Twenty Million Ghana Cedis (GHS20,000,000.00) for damages for slander and libel of Plaintiff by the Defendant.

b) An order of perpetual injunction to restrain the Defendant, her servants, agents, privies, assigns howsoever from publication of such words or any of them or similar words to that effect.

c) An order for the Defendant to pull down all the videos, audios in which she spoke the words defamatory of the Plaintiff from all her social media handles.

d) Cost, including lawyer’s professional fees.

Though the case is yet to be heard in court, Nana Agradaa has remained vocal online, giving little indication of regret and signaling a likely defense of her actions in both digital and legal arenas.
