Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has confirmed that Otto Addo will remain at the helm of the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, declaring that the coach will guide the team “as a proud Ghanaian.”
The announcement follows Ghana’s remarkable turnaround in the World Cup qualifiers, where the team clinched five victories in their last six matches to book a fifth appearance at the global tournament. The success came after a disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign that saw the Black Stars fail to win any of their six games and miss out on next year’s championship in Morocco.
Addo’s achievement makes him the first Ghanaian coach to lead the national team to back-to-back World Cup qualifications, having also guided them to the 2022 edition in Qatar.
“Otto qualified Ghana in a grand style to the upcoming World Cup and Otto will lead Ghana as a proud Ghanaian to the World Cup,” Okraku reportedly said in an interview with Asempa FM.
“Otto has a contract with the FA and we will respect the contract. He is not perfect, and no coach is perfect, neither is Kurt Okraku perfect. For me, he’s delivered what we asked of him, [and] he has done it in a grand style.
“For people to all of a sudden talk about the future of a coach that has qualified you to the Mundial, we are kidding in this country.”
Addo is set to continue his duties when Ghana embarks on an Asian tour in November, featuring friendly matches against Japan and South Korea as part of their World Cup preparations.
The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held on December 5 in Washington, where Ghana will find out about their group-stage opponents.
