Veteran Nigerian Actor Olu Jacobs Passes Away At 84

Veteran Nigerian actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.

The famous actor’s death was announced by his wife, Joke Silva, and their son in a social media post on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

According to the family, Olu Jacobs passed away on September 16 after a career that spanned several decades and established him as one of the most respected figures in Nigerian film and theatre.

In their tribute, the family referred to the late actor as the “Lion of Lufodo” as they announced his passing and reflected on his life.

“It is with gratitude to God for a life well lived and fought, that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and uncle. The Lion of Lufodo.

“Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (MFR). 11/07/1942 – 16/09/2026,” the family announcement read.

The family also asked the public, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to give them the space to grieve privately.

“We call on all bloggers and social media influencers to respect our family’s privacy at this time.”

Olu Jacobs celebrated his 84th birthday on July 11, 2026, before his death two months later.
