Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale is under fire after using his Homowo Festival performance in Osu to dismiss the value of education, a stance that media personality Yaa Yeboah says exposes his own contradictions.
On August 26, 2025, Shatta Wale mounted the stage at the Hydout Pub. Midway through his performance, he broke into a tirade against Ghana’s leaders and the country’s education system, insisting that schooling holds little real-world value.
“This country Wey we dey, them no want make it go well. Them no want make you make money well. Them no want make you buy house well. They only come lie you go to school, fu*ck school. Everything I learn for school, Ino see am for street,” he declared, drawing loud reactions from the crowd.
Two days later, Yaa Yeboah took to her X page to criticize the musician, pointing out that his own life contradicts his message. She argued that while Shatta Wale dismisses formal learning, he has relied on the very system he mocked in moments of crisis.
Stressing her point, she recalled his encounter with the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), when the artiste was detained over investigations into a Lamborghini allegedly tied to fraud. During that episode, Shatta Wale refused to speak until his lawyer was present, a lawyer whose profession exists only because of years of education and legal training.
“Funny how some of your fav artists can stand on stage and rubbish school, acting like education doesn’t matter. Yet when EOCO picked you up, the first thing you said was, ‘I’m waiting for my lawyer before I speak.’ That lawyer you’re relying on? He went to school, studied hard, and earned his certificate to practice law. The same schooling you rubbishing is now your shield,” Yaa Yeboah wrote.
Her critique has since fueled debate online about the influence of celebrities and the mixed messages they send to their fans.
