Ghanaian entertainment executive Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, widely known as Bulldog, has singled out Stonebwoy for what he considers an unmatched effort to take Ghanaian music beyond the country’s borders.
According to the artiste manager and entertainment analyst, Stonebwoy’s determination to establish the Ghanaian brand internationally places him among the most significant figures in the country’s music history.
Bulldog made the remarks during an interview with blogger Dek 360, where he reflected on the impact of Ghanaian musicians who have sought to break into international markets.
He drew a comparison between Stonebwoy’s current international drive and the pioneering work of Osibisa, the Ghanaian-founded Afro-rock band that helped introduce African music to audiences around the world.
For Bulldog, Stonebwoy’s decision to headline a concert at the OVO Arena Wembley in London was particularly significant. He argued that the importance of such a move should not be judged solely by the number of people who attended.
“Since the inception of Ghanaian music, no artist has worked harder than Stonebwoy in promoting and pushing the Ghanaian brand. You see what Stonebwoy did in the UK, very few artistes have done. Stonebwoy had a show at OVO Wembley Arena. Even if no one came, I would salute him,” Bulldog stated.
He said the decision itself required a level of confidence and ambition that deserved recognition, pointing to the cost and logistical demands involved in taking an entire team to the United Kingdom and staging a major production at a renowned venue.
Bulldog believes the move was therefore more than simply another concert. In his view, it reflected Stonebwoy’s willingness to take risks, create opportunities for Ghanaian music and lead from the front on the international scene.
While praising Stonebwoy, Bulldog was careful not to dismiss the contributions of other leading Ghanaian musicians, particularly Shatta Wale, whose own international efforts have shaped the country’s music industry.
“I will not diminish Shatta Wale’s impact; if I do, I would diminish my own impact… But this is not about Shatta. His mandate was to host a show at that arena to prove that he could do it,” he stated.
