Keche Fires Back at Critics Over TGMA Win, Insists They Would Have Beaten DopeNation

Ghanaian award-winning duo Keche have pushed back against claims that their win at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards for Best Group of the Year was influenced by a weak lineup of nominees, maintaining that their performance over the period was strong enough to secure the title regardless of who was included.

In an interview on Joy Prime on May 14, 2026, the group addressed ongoing conversations suggesting that their victory came partly because DopeNation was absent from the category.

Some critics had argued that the inclusion of DopeNation would have changed the outcome of the category in favour of the duo.

Keche, however, dismissed that narrative, stressing that the award is based on a group’s overall output and consistency across the year, not the popularity of a single record.

“Some people were saying the Best Group of the Year category wasn’t competitive enough, that’s why we won. They said that if DopeNation were in the category, they were going to win. I was like it’s not Group Song of the Year; it’s the Best Group of the Year,” they said.

They continued, “It’s like how we have the gospel artiste of the year and the gospel song of the year, they’re two different things.”

Outlining their activities during the year under review, Keche pointed to a packed performance schedule that kept them active across multiple venues nationwide.

“Last year, we were actively working. We were playing shows back to back everywhere. From September, we had like three or more events in a week till December 31. Actively, Keche was fantastic,” they shared.

They further argued that their consistency alone placed them above any competing acts in the category.

“Even if all the groups we know were in the category, we were still going to win,” they stressed.
