Fame can create a powerful image around a public figure, but Reggie Rockstone says one personal encounter taught him how quickly that image can change when a fan gets to see the person behind the celebrity persona.
The Ghanaian hiplife pioneer has opened up about a memorable experience with a woman he once dated, recalling how a blunt question from her after they became intimate left him thinking about advice he had received from friends.
Rockstone shared the story during an interview on Talk To Kula on August 26, 2026, while discussing relationships between celebrities and their admirers.
He said some of his friends had cautioned him against becoming romantically involved with fans because they believed such encounters could weaken the admiration and mystery surrounding a star.
“My friends used to say we shouldn’t sleep with the fans. I remember years back, I was with this girl, when I was Reggie Rockstone; she was a fine sister,” he said.
According to Rockstone, the significance of that advice became clearer after an encounter with the woman.
He recalled that while he was getting dressed afterwards, she watched him and made a comment that caught him completely off guard. Her words appeared to reflect the difference between the larger-than-life personality she knew from his career and the ordinary person she had just encountered privately.
“We did the ‘do’ and we were done; we were in an air-conditioned room. I was naked and I was trying to wear my clothes. The lady was lying on the bed watching me as I was wearing my clothes and she said to me, ‘So is this the Rockstone, Rockstone I’ve been hearing about?’ just because she had seen me naked,” he recounted.
Rockstone said the moment helped him understand what his friends meant when they warned that getting intimate with fans could affect the way they perceived him.
To him, celebrity status partly depends on the distance between the star and the audience. Once that distance disappears, the larger-than-life image can become much more ordinary.
“When my friends say don’t sleep with the fans, it kind of demotes the shine,” he stated.
While reflecting on relationships and the influence of fame, Rockstone also made it clear that he has never deliberately exploited his celebrity status when dealing with women.
The veteran musician acknowledged that fame can naturally attract romantic attention, but said he has always been conscious of how he handles such situations.
“I’ve never taken advantage of who I am in terms of my relations with women. Women love famous people, but I never took advantage,” he disclosed.
