Medikal Reveals Why He Dedicated TGMA Award To His Son Space

Medikal

Ghanaian rapper Medikal has opened up about why he chose to dedicate one of his honours at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards to his son, Space.

In an interview with Okay FM on May 14, 2026, the rapper explained that the moment felt personal after a song closely tied to his son played as he made his way to the stage to receive the award.

He said his track “Fully Active” was born out of everyday moments with his son, whose restless and energetic behaviour inspired the concept behind the song.

“When I was going for the award, one of my songs was being played in the background and that was ‘Fully Active’. I made that song because my son doesn’t sleep. He’s always active and whenever he hears a little sound, he wakes up. That’s what inspired me to record that song,” he stated.

According to Medikal, hearing the record in that exact moment brought everything back full circle, leading him to dedicate the award to Space on the spot.

“When I heard the DJ playing the song when I was going for the award, I remembered I recorded it because of my son. That’s why I dedicated it to my son Space,” he explained.

He also pushed back against suggestions that he shows preference between his children, especially claims that he favours Space over his daughter, Island. Medikal insisted that both children hold the same place in his heart.

“When it comes to Island, I’ve done a whole album for Island. I can’t say I love Space more than Island. They’re my children, so I love both of them equally,” he shared.

The rapper further noted that public interpretation of his actions is often exaggerated, with people reading unnecessary meanings into simple gestures.

“People like to talk a lot and they always want to read meanings into things,” Medikal added.
