Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo slams Ziega over King Promise criticism, defends TGMA integrity

Arnold Asamoah-Baido, King Promise and Nana Frimpong Ziega

Ghanaian Entertainment analyst Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has delivered a scathing rebuke to fellow pundit Nana Frimpong Ziega over controversial comments regarding King Promise’s recent triumph at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Making his return to UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday, May 24, 2025, after a brief absence, Arnold used the platform to directly confront Ziega’s assertions. Ziega had previously questioned the legitimacy of King Promise’s Artiste of the Year win, calling it an unfortunate precedent and suggesting the award was undeserved.

Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo dismissed Ziega’s remarks as deeply disrespectful. He argued that a nomination in itself is an endorsement of an artist’s impact and excellence during the review period. In his view, if King Promise qualified for a nomination, then his eventual win was not only valid but well-earned.

He insisted that the award did not come from a single decision-maker but was the result of consensus among the TGMA board, academy members, and the general public. Undermining that process, Arnold stressed, is equivalent to questioning the credibility of the entire scheme.

He called on Ziega to publicly retract his statements and apologize to both the TGMA organizers and the larger music community. Arnold maintained that throwing around unfounded criticism threatens to erode public trust in the awards system, which should be protected, not attacked.
