Amid a widening fraud investigation that has implicated some Ghanaians abroad, dancehall star Shatta Wale is distancing himself from the scandal.
The controversy flared after the FBI arrested several individuals, including Isaac Kofi Oduro Boateng, known as Kofi Boat, claimed to be an associate of Shatta Wale, in connection with alleged romance and inheritance scams. As speculation mounted online, the ‘Freedom’ composer broke his silence in a video aimed at setting the record straight.
“I’m a clean boy; my success is from music,” Shatta Wale declared, pushing back against claims that his rise to wealth was fueled by anything other than hard work and talent.
He described the allegations as groundless, attributing them to bitterness and envy among detractors unable to accept his level of success.
“You people are watching my life, and anytime there is an issue in Ghana, you like to drag me into it,” he said, taking aim at what he sees as a pattern of scapegoating.
Shatta Wale also criticized those who, in his view, are attempting to smear his name simply because their favorite artists can’t match his impact.
“You guys are making a mistake with my name. I am a very clean boy. Just because your artiste, your industry favourite, cannot pull the kind of things I can pull, you assume I am into fraud. You are free to tell people I am into fraud,” he added.
In his statement, Wale emphasized that foreign authorities are capable of doing thorough investigations and would have no trouble verifying the legitimacy of his success.
“One thing the white people coming here do is that they research. They are not stupid. They saw my Rolls-Royce and knew how I acquired the funds to purchase it. It’s music money. It’s not fraud; it’s hard work and dedication. So don’t make a mistake,” the popular Ghanaian artiste averred.
