The legal battle between Ghanaian gospel musician Empress Gifty and Evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, took a conciliatory turn as the singer’s lawyer publicly declared forgiveness for an earlier insult that once prompted legal threats.
The remark, made by Agradaa in a viral social media video, referred to Empress Gifty’s legal representative, Patrick Tawiah-Amprofi, as a “so-called lawyer.” Following their first court encounter, Tawiah-Amprofi responded on June 16, 2025, by demanding a formal apology through an official letter.
But at a court appearance on July 16, the lawyer told reporters that he and his firm had chosen to forgive Agradaa, pointing to what he described as genuine contrition.
“The last time we met, I noted that Patricia Asiedua had made some defamatory remarks about me, for which I wrote a statement demanding an apology. I have seen a video in which she apologised. So I want to note that and my law firm and I have forgiven her,” he stated.
This act of forgiveness, however, comes amid a much larger legal feud still unfolding in the courts. In May 2025, Empress Gifty filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit against Agradaa, accusing the self-styled preacher of spreading obscene and damaging falsehoods, including allegations of promiscuity and bestiality, during a livestreamed broadcast.
Despite Agradaa’s ongoing 15-year prison sentence for fraud, the Tema High Court ruled in June that the defamation case would proceed. The court dismissed her attempt to strike out the lawsuit and instructed her to pay GH¢6,000 in costs.
In a new procedural twist, Agradaa’s lawyers, following the July 16 court session, filed a request to have the case relocated to the Eastern Region. Their argument rests on the difficulty of transporting Agradaa from her place of incarceration in Nsawam to Accra for trial appearances.
Though the offensive remark may now be forgiven, the broader legal battle shows no sign of abating.
