Ghanaian singer and songwriter Gyakie is shedding light on the origins of her album ‘After Midnight’, unveiling the quiet, introspective hours that shaped its sound and soul.
In a candid interview with Doreen Avio on ‘Daybreak Hitz’, the ‘Forever’ shared that the title wasn’t crafted for aesthetic allure, it was a literal reflection of when the music came alive.
“The name After Midnight came from how and when the songs were recorded,” she explained.
“Most of the studio sessions took place after midnight. I like to record at dawn because that’s when most people are asleep, and everything is quiet. That’s when I’m able to create properly. It has always been my favorite time of day, so the name of the project just made sense.”
For Gyakie, the project represents more than just musical expression; it marks a personal and artistic evolution. The process, she said, felt momentous.
“This project, every time I talk about it, I feel like a mother about to give birth to her first child,” she said. “I’ve always believed that an album represents an artist, especially your first or debut album.”
