Ghanaian gospel singer Cee is breaking the silence surrounding her broken marriage, dispelling spiritual myths and offering a raw, honest account of why she walked away. Unlike others in ministry who’ve claimed divine direction led them to divorce, Cee insists her exit was not based on any revelation from above, but rather on deeply personal reasons she could no longer ignore.
“I was married to a pastor, but I left because of certain issues and circumstances that I could not stand. He is aware of those issues. God did not tell me to leave my husband; I left because I could no longer take certain things,” she stated.
Her words challenge a common trope in gospel circles, that failed marriages are often the result of a higher calling. For Cee, it was about emotional thresholds, not theological ones.
She also weighed in on why many gospel musicians find themselves drawn to pastors as life partners. According to her, it’s often out of the hope that a man of God will understand the complexities of ministry life and support it fully. “They believe these men of God understand their calling and will help their ministry,” she explained.
However, Cee admitted that marrying a pastor was never her plan. In fact, she initially avoided the idea altogether. “I rejected a number of them,” she said, only to end up marrying one in the end.
