Ghanaian artiste King Paluta is celebrating an unexpected moment of national recognition, his chart-topping song ‘Aseda’ made its way into the 2024/2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The inclusion of his song in the national curriculum caught the artiste, known in private life as Thomas Adjei Wireko, off guard. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, he shared his disbelief and joy in a light-hearted post.
“I don’t know if it’s really true but I heard there was a question in the BECE exams today about me. I’m popping the champagne already,” he wrote.
The question appeared in Section B of the Music and Creative Arts paper and focused on the social impact of Paluta’s lyricism. Students were asked to reflect on the societal messages embedded in ‘Aseda’:
“King Paluta, whose real name is Thomas Adjei Wireko, is a Ghanaian musician known for blending traditional rhythms, storytelling, and modern hip-hop beats in his music. One of his most popular songs, ‘Aseda,’ carries deep messages that address important issues in Ghanaian society. Identify two of these issues.”
