Ghanaian comedian Derick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has raised eyebrows over what he describes as an alarming rate of data depletion under MTN Ghana’s current internet bundle.
In a video shared on his X page, DKB criticized the telecom company for what he called an inexplicable drop in value. According to him, the new Turbonet data package offers significantly more gigabytes but delivers far less usage time.
The comedian compared his past experience with MTN’s former 92GB plan, which he said lasted up to two months while streaming several movies, to the new 214GB bundle that reportedly vanished within just 18 days.
“MTN Ghana, what is the meaning of this? When the Turbonet data bundle was 92GB, I could use it for 6 weeks to 2 months. The new one you say is 214GB, I got some, and in less than three weeks, the data is finished. How can 214GB last only three weeks when 92GB lasted for two months? I bought the data on July 1 and by July 19, it was finished. MTN, please explain because I don’t understand this,” DKB said in the video.
He explained that the drastic shift in performance occurred despite consuming far less content on the newer plan. While he used to stream multiple movies and still have data left over, the larger 214GB bundle reportedly ran out after only two.
In the caption of his post, DKB directly addressed MTN Ghana, tagging the company and demanding a response.
“Hello @MTNGhana, can you please explain why the previous small data of 92GB lasted over 2 months but your new increased data of 214GB lasted only 18 days? I’m very pissed off,” the Ghanaian comedian wrote.
The post has since triggered widespread discussion online, with other users echoing concerns over data value and transparency in bundle consumption.
