Musicians Who Claim They Don’t Care About Awards Are Lying, Awards Prove Hard Work Pays – Ras Kuuku

Ras Kuuku

Ras Kuuku has slammed artistes who claim they are not driven by awards, describing such claims as dishonest.

The Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artiste told Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie on Hitz FM that recognition is a natural desire for every musician, arguing that awards are among the highest forms of validation in the music industry.

“Any artiste who says they don’t do music for awards is lying. Awards bring joy and make fans proud. It’s a recognition of your hard work. When you win, it means the music you planted has borne fruit. If you don’t, then maybe what you sowed failed to be harvested,” he said.

Ras Kuuku emphasized that awards not only celebrate success but also inspire artistes to strive for more. He noted that such recognition distinguishes performers from their peers and reflects true artistic growth. “Those who say they don’t want awards are the same ones who love comparisons. Awards set you apart. If you’re an artiste, whether legendary or not, and you’ve never won a TGMA, then there’s something wrong,” he added.

He revealed that many artistes quietly feel the sting of disappointment when they lose out on awards, with some even breaking down in private.

Ras Kuuku asserts that the accolades he has received symbolize years of effort and fulfilment. He further called on both fans and the industry to continue valuing platforms such as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), saying they inspire excellence and strengthen the connection between artistes and their audiences.
