I’d Rather Divorce Now Than Face Trouble After Death – Edward Akwasi Boateng

Edward Akwasi Boateng

Veteran Ghanaian gospel singer, Edward Akwasi Boateng, has announced plans to legally end his marriage, explaining that he wants to avoid any posthumous battles over his property.

The singer said his decision was influenced by the ongoing public feud between the widows of the late Highlife icon Daddy Lumba, whose funeral preparations have been clouded by family tension.

During an interview on Hello FM in Kumasi, Boateng revealed that he intends to visit the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to formally begin divorce proceedings.

“Looking at what’s happening, I’ve decided to go to the KMA to end my marriage. It’s worrying that after separating from your wife, when you die, she might show up to fight with your family, claiming to be the rightful wife. I won’t allow that. She left me, so I’ll take the step to legally dissolve the marriage,” he said.

Boateng explained that the decision comes after years of marital and financial struggles that nearly destroyed his life and career.

In previous interviews, he revealed that his marriage drained his wealth, leaving him without the 17 vehicles he once owned and stripped of most of his assets.

Edward Akwasi Boateng claimed his wife encouraged an extravagant lifestyle before abandoning him to settle in the United States. The collapse of the relationship, he said, left him struggling to make ends meet, sometimes unable to pay school fees or provide for his children’s basic needs.
