Tinny Marks Musical Comeback and Weighs In on the Burden of Mentorship

Tinny

After stepping away from the limelight for several years, Ghanaian rapper Nii Addo Quaynor, better known as Tinny, is back, and he’s not just dropping music but also challenging industry norms.

During a discussion on the 3FM Drive, the veteran rapper opened up about his views on mentorship within the creative space. Drawing from his own experiences, Tinny stressed that mentoring should never be seen as an obligation.

“I believe that thing [mentorship] comes naturally. Don’t force it to happen. If you force it to happen, you’ll end up just like a Catholic priest who commits adultery. It is not your calling, it comes natural so don’t force yourself to mentor someone or to give a crown to someone,” he explained.

According to Tinny, the role of a mentor must emerge organically, not everyone is cut out for it, nor should it be imposed on every successful artist. “And it is not everyone who deserves a mentoring crown. Mentoring somebody is on point, it is cool but e not be gidigidi like that,” he added.

While his remarks may ignite conversation among peers and fans alike, Tinny’s return to music remains the center of attention. He has released two fresh singles, “We Dey Conquer” and “Barrier”, now available on all streaming platforms.

“Conquer dropped recently, Barrier is here, I am working on my album which is about to drop and building up to the album, like four to five tracks will follow before the album comes,” he revealed in a conversation with fellow musician Trigmatic.

Tinny made his name in the late ’90s and skyrocketed to national fame with his 2003 anthem “Makola Kwakwe.” Now, with renewed energy and new music on the horizon, he’s re-entering the scene on his own terms—undaunted, unfiltered, and ready to lead, whether by example or not at all.
