The one-week observation for the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba, will take place at the University of Ghana (Legon) Sports Stadium on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The announcement, shared by DL FM, follows an earlier statement from the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta. At a press briefing, the family’s head, the Abusuapanyin, explained that hosting the initial ceremony in Accra will allow admirers and sympathizers from across the country to pay their respects before the final funeral rites are held in Kumasi.
The choice of venues was influenced by a customary visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to formally notify him of the musician’s passing.
“When we officially informed the Asantehene of the passing of Daddy Lumba, he reminded us that Daddy Lumba is a royal,” the Abusuapanyin said.
With that reminder, the family determined that while the one-week observance would take place in Accra for accessibility, Kumasi, home to the Ashanti royal seat, would host the main funeral. As tradition demands, the late artist’s body will be presented to the Asantehene during the burial rites.
In addition, the family confirmed plans to visit the Ga Mantse in Accra to observe protocol by informing him of Daddy Lumba’s death and the upcoming arrangements.
Thousands of mourners, fellow musicians, and long-time admirers are expected to converge for the Legon event, which will serve as both a public farewell and a celebration of the man whose music shaped generations.
