Kofi Kinaata Reflects on Helicopter Crash and Ghana’s Recent Tragedies: “It’s Been Weighing Heavily on My Soul”

Kofi Kinaata

Kofi Kinaata says the thought of what could have been a personal tragedy continues to weigh heavily on him, after realizing he had flown twice in the same helicopter that later crashed on August 6, 2025, killing eight leading Ghanaian officials.

The singer admitted that the tragedy has left him shaken, forcing him to confront the uncertainty of life and deepening his reflections on recent national sorrows. Alongside the helicopter disaster, he pointed to the loss of 16 schoolchildren in a traffic accident and the death of Highlife icon Daddy Lumba as moments that have collectively darkened his spirit.

He revealed that what troubles him most is the haunting awareness that he could easily have been among the crash victims. Even his music, once a source of comfort, has become an outlet for grief, with every composition taking on a mournful tone.

Posting on X, he wrote: “From the loss of 16 kids, to the passing of our legendary musicians, and now the helicopter tragedy, it’s been weighing heavily on my soul. What makes it even harder is knowing I’ve been on that same flight twice this year. That thought just won’t leave me. Moments like these really make you question life… what’s the point, when it can all end in an instant? I’ve tried to shake it off with music, but every song I write somehow turns into a sad one.”

His candid words drew a compassionate reply from fellow artist Sarkodie, who encouraged him to embrace his feelings rather than resist them.

“It’s a very dark time and I can relate a hundred percent… as a true artist, you can only channel what you feel so don’t fight it just pour out what you are feeling inside… you don’t know who might need it. Drop the music,” Sarkodie reacted.
