Government Officially Informed of Daddy Lumba’s Death by Family

The family of Highlife icon Daddy Lumba has carried out a solemn duty, formally notifying the Presidency of his death as custom demands.

On Monday, August 25, relatives of the late musician visited Chief of Staff Julius Debrah at Jubilee House to officially communicate the news of his passing. The meeting also focused on initial funeral planning and the role the state may play in honouring his enduring legacy.

According to the family, a one-week memorial will take place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium. The observance is expected to bring together government officials, musicians, and devoted fans to reflect on Daddy Lumba’s towering impact on Ghana’s music scene.

Confirming the visit, a message shared on the artist’s official Instagram page read: “The Chief of Staff, Honourable Julius Debrah, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, today received a delegation from the Parkoso Ekoɔna Ebusua, the Fosuh Family, and the Funeral Planning Committee of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosuh (Daddy Lumba). The delegation officially announced his passing and confirmed that the One-Week Observation will be held on Saturday, 30th August 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Complex.”

Mr. Debrah, speaking for the President, offered the government’s condolences, describing Daddy Lumba as a voice that resonated far beyond the music stage.

“Daddy Lumba was not just a musician; he was a national treasure whose voice, lyrics and artistry touched every corner of Ghanaian society,” he said.

“On behalf of the President and the people of Ghana, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”

He further assured the delegation that the government would stand with the family to ensure that the late legend receives a fitting national celebration.

Born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, Daddy Lumba died on July 26, 2025, after a short illness. His passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from across Ghana and beyond, as admirers reflect on his unmatched contributions to Highlife music.
