“I Parked My Car” – Sarkodie Shares The Shocking Moment He Heard About Daddy Lumba’s Death

Ghanaian rapper, Michael Owusu Addo, popularly known as Sarkodie, has shared the emotional moment he first learned about Daddy Lumba’s death.

During a live Instagram session on September 1, 2025, later posted on X, Sarkodie recounted that he was driving when the call reached him. The news stunned him so deeply that he had to stop the car.

The rapper described his disbelief at the time, considering how much he revered the late highlife legend. “If I had heard it from anywhere else, I wouldn’t have taken it seriously, but the person who called me, I actually parked because I was driving. I don’t know what came over me, but I started calling his phone. It was going through, but no one picked,” he said.

A day later, Sarkodie’s phone lit up again—this time with Daddy Lumba’s number. The call, however, came with a painful confirmation. “The next morning, I saw his number calling me. It was a bit scary, but it was his wife, Odo Broni, who actually confirmed it,” he explained.

Beyond admiration, Sarkodie revealed the personal bond he shared with Lumba, describing him as both a mentor and a father figure. The legendary musician, he said, regularly offered him counsel about the industry and life as an artist.

“It was a privilege to be on a song with him, and I also had the opportunity to visit him at home. Sometimes he makes me come and speak to me about how the industry is and what I can learn from it,” Sarkodie recalled.

“This is someone I look up to, so when I heard the news, I couldn’t doubt because of who called me,” he further stated.
