Ghana has lost one of its most celebrated innovators and religious leaders. Apostle Kwadwo Safo, the visionary behind the Kristo Asafo Church and the Kantanka Group of Companies, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025. He was 77.
His daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo, a former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya and one-time Minister of Gender, confirmed his death in a statement released Sunday morning.
Born on August 26, 1948, Apostle Safo built a legacy that stretched far beyond the pulpit. Known as “The Star of Africa,” he earned recognition as a preacher, inventor, physicist, chemist, biologist, agriculturalist, and philanthropist.
He established the Great KOSA network of companies and chaired the Kantanka Group, which included Kantanka Automobile, a pioneering Ghanaian automotive company. Under his leadership, the firm introduced vehicles such as the Kantanka Omama SUV and the Onantefo pickup truck, both created with the African market in mind.
Through the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Safo combined religious ministry with industrial development, becoming a symbol of local ingenuity and technological ambition in Ghana.
