The Cape Coast Circuit Court has sentenced a 49-year-old fisherman to 10 years in prison with hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl in Mumford, a coastal town near Apam in Ghana’s Central Region.
The convict, Samuel Armah, popularly called “Kofi Nyan,” pleaded guilty when he appeared before Her Honour Nana Aba Quiba Nunoo at the Cape Coast Circuit Court Two on October 28, 2025. Following his conviction, he was immediately sent to Ankaful Prison to begin serving his sentence.
The case reportedly stemmed from an incident on October 16, 2025, which triggered widespread public outrage after a video of the assault surfaced on social media. In the viral footage, Armah is heard accusing the young girl of stealing GH¢800 and demanding GH¢200 every hour as “payment.”
Despite the victim’s desperate pleas to stop so she could look for the missing money, Armah continued the assault. Some bystanders were seen in the video egging him on, while others appeared visibly uneasy but failed to intervene.
Police reports indicate that the Apam District Command received a complaint around 1 p.m. on October 17, 2025. Acting swiftly, officers from the Central Regional Police Command, assisted by the Mumford Task Force, arrested Armah at a ghetto in the community where he had reportedly lured the victim. The girl was later taken to St. Luke Catholic Hospital for examination and treatment.
The case was transferred to the Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), where Armah confessed to the offence during questioning.
Authorities have identified four other individuals, Agoogo, Edina, Kwesi Abbam, and Agya Ankoto, who are currently on the run.
Police have called on residents of Mumford and nearby towns to provide any information that could lead to their arrest and prosecution.
