A stampede at El Wak Stadium during the Ghana Armed Forces’ recruitment exercise has claimed the lives of six prospective soldiers, the military confirmed. Numerous others were injured and are receiving medical treatment.
In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces expressed deep regret over the tragedy, which occurred before the start of the 2025/2026 recruitment process.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was sparked by an unexpected surge of applicants who bypassed security and rushed the gate around 06:20 hours, ahead of the scheduled screening.
The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the injured are currently being treated at the 37 Military Hospital.
