The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum, has stated that midfielder Abu Francis is responding well to treatment after undergoing surgery in Japan, offering reassurance to fans concerned about his condition.
He indicated in a social media post sighted by Firstnewsroom.com that his status has “significantly improved” following a procedure earlier in the week. The operation took place at Toyota Memorial Hospital, where doctors produced what the Association described as outstanding outcomes. Francis is said to be in good spirits as he starts the earliest stage of rehabilitation.
His recovery is happening as medical staff anticipated, and plans are in place for him to leave the hospital before the weekend concludes.
The GFA official expressed gratitude to the surgical team at Toyota Memorial Hospital, the Black Stars medical staff headed by Dr Prince Pambo, and the Toulouse FC medical department. Their combined efforts ensured the midfielder received comprehensive and timely care.
Abu Francis picked up the fracture while trying to block a strike about ten minutes into the second half of Ghana’s friendly against Japan on Friday, November 14, 2025. The awkward movement around his ankle worried teammates, leading to his exit on a stretcher. He had started the match but was replaced by Alidu Seidu in the 56th minute as the Black Stars fell 2 to 0.
The appearance marked his return to the national team setup after missing the September and October World Cup qualifiers.
