“Babies Are Not Dirty” – Toke Makinwa Explains Why She Doesn’t Bathe Her Baby Daily

Toke Makinwa has stirred conversation among new parents after sharing her thoughts on how often newborns should be bathed. The Nollywood actress and media personality believes daily baths may do more harm than good for a baby’s delicate skin.

In a video posted on her social media page, Makinwa, who recently became a mother at 40, explained that she avoids bathing her child every day. Instead, she relies on gentle wiping, insisting that babies are naturally clean from birth.

“I really think bathing babies actually causes problems. Babies are not dirty. They have been inside the womb for nine months. Inside the womb is not dirty,” she said.

She added that over-washing can be unnecessary, considering how little contact infants have with dirt. “I don’t bathe my baby every day because it is not necessary. Babies are not on the floor; they are not dirty or sweaty. So, why are you excessively putting water on their skin? Their skin is fragile. You can wipe them instead of bathing them every day. This helped me, so I’m just putting it out there,” she expressed.

Her comments have generated divided reactions online, with some mothers supporting her approach and others questioning her experience and expertise on newborn care.
