Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Nii Adom Quaye, popularly known as Strika, is reportedly facing a prison sentence following an alleged theft incident involving metal railings at the Kwashieman footbridge in Accra.
The actor, who shot to international fame as a child star in the 2015 Netflix film Beasts of No Nation, was reportedly arrested in August after residents allegedly caught him removing metal railings from the footbridge.
Following the arrest, Strika is said to have appeared before a court in connection with the incident.
According to reports, Strika disclosed details of his court appearance during a phone conversation with his former caretaker, Official Gunshot GH.
He reportedly told him that the court had sentenced him to one year in prison and that he was expected to be transferred to Nsawam Prison on Monday, September 14, to begin serving his sentence.
The reported development has attracted reactions from social media users, with some expressing concern about the actor’s situation while others believe he should be held accountable if found guilty of the alleged offence.
Questions have, however, emerged over the actual length of the sentence Strika received.
While one account claims that the actor was handed a one-year prison term, another source reportedly puts the sentence at seven years. The conflicting reports have yet to be independently clarified, making it difficult to establish the exact punishment imposed by the court.
Strika became a familiar face to international audiences after his performance in Beasts of No Nation, where he acted alongside Idris Elba and fellow Ghanaian actor Abraham Attah.
His portrayal in the film earned him widespread attention and marked him out as one of Ghana’s promising young acting talents at the time.
