Bishop Daniel Obinim has made fresh claims about his failed marriage to Florence Obinim, suggesting that their separation has left deep wounds as he publicly addressed some of the issues that contributed to the breakdown of their relationship.
The founder and leader of the International God’s Way Church made the remarks in an audio recording that has surfaced online, where he spoke at length about his relationship with his former wife.
One of the strongest statements in the recording concerned Florence’s continued use of his surname.
According to Bishop Obinim, he had accepted a drink presented by Florence as a traditional indication that their marriage had come to an end. He therefore insisted that she should no longer use the name ‘Obinim’.
“You have embarrassed me, and I emphasise that when I die, don’t come to my funeral as a widow. Since I have accepted the drink, remove the name Obinim from your name,” he averred.
Bishop Obinim also accused Florence of failing to perform some of the duties he expected from her as his wife during their marriage.
He specifically claimed that she rarely cooked for him and said her sister, Comfort, was responsible for most of the cooking and other household duties.
The preacher further stated that he had lost interest in the marriage years ago but remained in the relationship largely because Florence was the mother of his children.
“How many times do you cook for me in seven days of the week? You don’t cook for me because it’s your sister, Comfort, who cooks for me. So I was no longer interested in the marriage, but I was forcing myself to be in it because you are the mother of my children.
“…and also because we have been married for some time now. Have you washed my clothes and bedsheets before? Do you even talk to me as a wife?” he said.
In another part of the audio, Bishop Obinim acknowledged that he had been involved in relationships with other women while he was still married to Florence.
He claimed some of those relationships lasted several years, with the longest allegedly continuing for nine years. However, he maintained that he was the one who eventually ended each of them.
“I told you I lost interest in the marriage. While we were married, I was having affairs with other women, and the longest affair I have been with a woman was nine years. In fact, I was the one to break up with all these women, and the shortest dating period was five years.
“In fact, none of these women broke up with me. All of them were even crying, and I ended the relationship with them,” he revealed.
Bishop Obinim also spoke about the distance that had developed between him and Florence, claiming that they stopped sharing a bed at a certain point in their marriage.
He further alleged that Florence’s daily routine kept her away from home for long periods and said the separation had not left him longing for her.
“I have never missed you for once ever since I left you for the past two months. You don’t sleep beside me. When I was staying with you, you left my house around 6 AM and came home around 11 PM. I don’t even miss you because of sex,” Bishop Obinim further stated.
