Reggie Rockstone has given an account of his early life and the circumstances that shaped his entry into Ghana’s music industry, revealing that financial hardship was never part of his childhood experience.”
The music legend said he was raised in a financially comfortable family, with his father playing a major role in nurturing his interest in music.
Speaking to Nana Aba Anamoah on a podcast on September 12, 2026, Reggie explained that his privileged upbringing meant he had access to opportunities and resources that many aspiring musicians did not have.
Rather than having to struggle to pursue his musical interests, he said his father actively encouraged him and his siblings, even providing them with a studio where they could explore their talents.
“My story is uniquely different from a lot. I always say that I didn’t suffer. Growing up, we were financially stable. My dad was so proud of his son, so I got whatever I wanted,” he said.
According to the former music group member, his experience changed when he travelled abroad and began trying to establish himself professionally in the music industry.
He recalled returning to Ghana with the confidence and lifestyle associated with his privileged background, which he described as the “dadabee flex”. However, he said the real test of his determination came during his time abroad.
“He even built a studio for us down the street so I didn’t go through hardship. When I came back home from abroad, I brought the dadabee flex to the house. The time I suffered in the music industry was when I was abroad,” he divulged.
Reggie said breaking through as a rapper at the time was far from straightforward. Rap music was attracting significant attention, resulting in a crowded field of artistes all seeking opportunities to establish themselves.
“At that time, I was new to the industry and the competition wasn’t easy. Rap was so productive and everyone wanted to be a rapper,” he recounted.
His early experiences also included moments when he found himself away from the spotlight while more established musicians took over performances.
“I was always left backstage when the big artistes were performing on stage,” he stated.
Despite these obstacles, Reggie said he looks back on the journey with appreciation. He described his experience as an essential part of his development, although he was careful to distinguish his story from that of artistes who endured severe financial difficulties before making it in the industry.
“After all of this, it’s a beautiful journey; it’s necessary, but just that I can’t say about the hardship because I didn’t go through that,” Reggie Rockstone further stated.
